In a significant policy change on February 19, 2025, the Himachal Pradesh government decided to pay full salary to doctors going for study leave. The decision, directed by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, will help doctors pursuing postgraduate (PG) courses, senior residency, or DM-level study. Doctors previously received only 40% of their salary while on study leave, affecting their financial health in a negative way.
The Chief Minister again stated that the move has been made to assist medical doctors in maintaining a balance between patient care and educational tasks, ultimately making the state's healthcare system stronger. The Himachal Medical Officers' Association welcomed the initiative and thanked for addressing a major issue of doctors.
This project will increase the quality of patient outcomes and training across Himachal Pradesh.
