In preparation for the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has trained approximately 1,300 boatmen in basic water rescue skills. This initiative aims to enhance safety during the massive congregation by equipping local boatmen with essential rescue techniques to prevent drowning incidents. NDRF Director General Piyush Anand highlighted the collaboration with state disaster response forces to bolster disaster response capabilities. The NDRF has also upgraded its equipment, including speed boats now powered with 40 horsepower engines, to ensure effective operations during the event.
