Recent government data reveals that the Ganga water at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, where millions are taking holy dips during the ongoing Maha Kumbh, is unsafe for bathing. The water exceeds the prescribed limit for biological oxygen demand (BOD), with levels reaching 5.29 mg/L on February 19, well above the safe limit of 3 mg/L. This comes after reports of high faecal coliform levels, raising serious health concerns for pilgrims. Despite these findings, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has refuted the claims, stating that the water is suitable for bathing and even drinking.
