In a significant move to conserve potable water, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has mandated the use of tertiary-treated recycled water for all construction activities. This directive, issued on February 12, 2025, aims to address the rising demand for drinking water amid rapid urban development and unpredictable rainfall patterns. NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde emphasized the importance of this initiative during a meeting with builders and architects, highlighting that the city's seven advanced sewage treatment plants can supply up to 45 million liters of treated water daily for non-potable uses. Developers have expressed unanimous support for this sustainable practice, recognizing its role in preserving essential water resources.
