The Supreme Court of India has directed states to ensure the provision of dedicated spaces for child care and infant feeding in public buildings. On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, the court emphasized the importance of these facilities to ensure privacy for mothers and benefit infants. The bench, comprising Justices B V Nagarathna and Prasanna B Varale, stated that such spaces should be included in the planning and construction of new public buildings, while existing structures should accommodate these facilities where practicable. This directive aims to protect the fundamental rights of nursing mothers and infants, aligning with Articles 14 and 15(3) of the Constitution.
